Christmas Words With Lars is a holiday-themed app that works to expand vocabulary, improve word recognition, phonics, and reading fluency in young children in a beautifully-illustrated environment. Early level literacy skills is extremely important for children to master at a young age to foster the interest of reading and learning in the later years.

Using the highly-effective Sight Word technique, the app acquaints young children to reading: the spelling, the pronunciation and the meaning of popular Christmas words like Santa Claus, wreath, reindeer, mistletoe, gingerbread and the slightly trickier meaning of words like peace, humble, anticipation, togetherness, exchange.

Christmas Words with Lars is delightfully simple to use. Start it up, and you’re offered 18 icons sitting on a christmas tree to pick. Tapping on an icon brings you to a the page where you work with a word. Each letter comes out consecutively and it’s your job to put together the word - like you would with a puzzle. An faint version of the word stays on to give young children a chance, they just need to drag each letter into the right place.
Once all the letters are dragged onto the word, an animation plays and the narrator defines the meaning of the word in a way young children would understand.

The serene nature of the puzzle section makes the learning aspect a more focused-task, without the distraction of excessive and repetitive sound-effects.
